Daily Maintenance:

  1. Update the Anti-virus definitions.x
  2. Run an Anti-virus scan of the hard drive
  3. Update the Spy Sweeper definitions.
  4. Run Spy Sweeper to scan the hard drive.
  5. Update Spybot Search and Destroy definitions and run a full scan.
  6. Defragment your hard drive.

Weekly Maintenance:

  1. Update 'Ad-aware' definitions and run a full scan.
  2. Update SpyBot definitions (1-7)
  3. Update Spyware Blaster.

Monthly Maintenance:

  1. Delete all 'Temporary Internet files'.
  2. Delete all other temporary files.
  3. Backup all important data files to removeable media.

Procedures:

Spy Sweeper v5.2

  1. Start “Spy Sweeper.”
  2. In the middle, click on "Check for updates." (follow instructions.)
  3. Click “Home” on left side.
  4. Click on "Start full sweep."
  5. If item/traces are found:
    1. Uncheck anything you do not want to quarantine.
    2. Click “Quarantine Selected."
  6. Click “Home” and close Spy Sweeper.

Ad-aware v1.06

  1. Start Lavasoft Ad-aware SE Personal.
  2. Click on “Check for updates now.”
  3. Click “Connect.”
  4. Click “OK.”
  5. After updates are downloaded, click “Finish.”
  6. Click “Start.”
  7. Select “Perform full system scan.”
  8. Click “Next.”
  9. If objects are found:
    1. Click “Next.”
    2. Right click on any “Object” and click on “Select all Objects.”
    3. Click on “Next.”
    4. Click on “OK” and go to step 10.
  10. Close Ad-aware.

Spybot Search and Destroy (easy mode) v1.4

  1. Start “SpyBot Search & Destroy.”
  2. Click on “Search for Updates.”
  3. Check all boxes except Tea Timer and Skins.
  4. Click “Download Updates.”
  5. Click on 'Immunize' on the left side.
  6. Click 'OK' if a warning message appears.
  7. Click 'Immunize' at the top.
  8. Click on “Search & Destroy” on the left side.
  9. Click on “Check for Problems” at the top.
  10. Click on “Fix Problems.”
  11. Click “OK” and close SpyBot.

Defragment your hard drive.

  1. Click on 'Start'

  2. Click on 'My Computer'

  3. Right click on 'C:' drive

  4. Select 'Properties'

  5. Click on the 'Tools' tab

  6. Click on 'Defrag Now'

  7. Click on 'OK'

Delete all 'Temporary Internet files'. v6

  1. Start “Internet Explorer.”
  2. Click on the “Tools” menu.
  3. Select “Internet Options.”
  4. Click on “Delete Files” button.
  5. Check the box “Delete all offline content.”
  6. Click on “OK.”

Delete all 'Temporary Internet files'. v7

  1. Start “Internet Explorer.”
  2. Click on the “Tools” menu.
  3. Select “Internet Options.”
  4. Click "Delete" under Browsing History.
  5. Click "Delete" under Temporary Internet files
  6. Click "Delete" under History.
  7. Click "Close."
  8. Click "OK."

Update Spyware Blaster: v3.5.1

  1. Start Spyware Blaster.
  2. Click on “Download Latest Protection Updates.”
  3. Click on “Check for Updates.”
  4. Click on “< Back.”
  5. Click on “Protection.”
  6. Click on “Enable all Protection.” & close Spyware Blaster.

Delete other temporary files:

  1. Click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup.
  2. Click “OK.”
  3. Check all boxes except “Compress old files”.
  4. Click on “OK.”
  5. Click “Yes.”
